Hot Tomato

Elisa:
We sincerely apologize for the lack of posts lately. We’ve been really busy studying for our promotional exams (which just ended yesterday thankfully :)) and we’re just overwhelmed by the enormous amounts of topics and concepts that we have the grasps and the pile of assignments that we have to complete each day. But now that we’re finally done with exams, we’re definitely much more relaxed right now and we can finally do the stuff that satisfies us. Like for example, sharing the joy of good food 🙂
So this post is long overdue, but I’ve never gotten the chance to blog about this. I’ve walked pass Hot Tomato many many times – at Plaza Singapura, NEX Mall, 313 @ Somerset – but I’ve never really had the urge to try it. To me, it seemed like a rather pretentious, casual, uninteresting western dining place which is never quite worth the try.
But given the fact that my friends and I had the lack of dining options to chose from since it was a Friday night and most restaurants were packed, we decided to go for it anyway. Well, we were actually quite enticed by their honestly cheap ‘trademark’ combo of Steak and Prawns at only $12.90. So, no harm trying anyway 🙂 Also, for an additional $2.90, you would complete your main course with a soup and garlic bread, and a drink. Definitely reasonable!

Garlic Bread

Garlic bread to start.

Mushroom Soup

Mushroom soup. I thought the soup was a little too watery and diluted. It wasn’t thick, creamy and velvety at all; nothing like that of Soup Spoon.

Sirloin Steak with Pasta

Hehe, poor boy can’t wait to dig in

Sirloin Steak served with Pasta and Salad. The steak was a little chewy and tough. The pasta was cooked well I would say – al dente. Although the salad was just a few pieces of iceberg lettuce, it was not overly-dressed, nor was it completely bare. There was just the right amount of dressing, so definitely pleasing 🙂 Nevertheless, just for $10.90 and the large portion, this was definitely a value for money.

Seared Salmon with Pasta

Seared Salmon with Mango Salsa, served with Pasta and Salad. The salmon was seared perfectly, but I thought they could have been more generous with the Mango Salsa. For the pasta and salad it was consistent with the above 🙂

Molten Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream

For dessert, we had the Molten Lava Cake served with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was either this, or tiramisu but nono, nothing would beat this chocolatey decadent. It was perfectly plated on a hot plate, and I prevented everyone from feasting on it before I could take a beautiful picture of it. Hahhaa, typical me. And then we started indulging… and… we were tremendously disappointed… because it was totally overcooked!!! Which means there was no gooey overflowing chocolate at all! 😦 It was a bad end to the meal.
Overall, I would say the food is definitely not the best. But, it was reasonable and affordable. Service was attentive and efficient. It’s definitely a great place for big groups, especially for team bondings!
