3 Inch Sin

Located in an isolated corner on the second floor of Cluny Court is a rather tiny café which has become a household name as it is known for having one of the best Chocolate Lava Cakes in town.
Oscar Wilde once said, “I can resist anything except temptation.” Such an appropriate quote for the decadence and indulgence which awaits ahead. Stepping into 3 Inch Sin is like stepping into dreamland as you take a long sniff of the distinct and unmistakable aroma of warm chocolate wafting through the air. This smell, is the smell that no one can resist – the smell of rich chocolate decadence – simply irresistible and tempting.
3 Inch Sin does not have much desserts/cakes to offer unlike many other dessert-oriented places and that’s what makes them different and all the more better ( in our opinion) because they specialize in freshly-baked warm Chocolate Cakes with different playful and unique fillings. Warm Chocolate Lava Cakes are what they’re known for. It’s their specialty, and they do it the best.
The Warm Chocolate Cakes are served in 2 sizes – the standard 3-inch (and hence their name) for $6 (+$3 for a scoop of Ice Cream) and 3 mini ones for $5. The flavors offered for the mini Warm Chocolate Cakes are: Original, Mint, Bitter Orange, Coffee, Hazelnut, Raspberry, Peanut Butter, White Chocolate, Lemon, Baileys and Cherries Jubilee.

Mini Molten Chocolate Cakes

Wanting to try a range of their flavors, we went for the Mini Molten Flavors and opted for the Original, Peanut Butter and Raspberry. It was a long 20 minutes wait full of anticipation and excitement but it was all worth it as the aroma of the freshly-baked warm Chocolate Cake was like a punch in the face when it finally arrived.
A nice crisp chocolate exterior coupled with warm molten interior bursting with flavor and utter goodness was simply heaven. While some had reviewed and said that the Mini Cakes lacked/had too little molten gooeyness in the center as the cake is too small, we beg to differ as all of ours had an incredibly rich molten center that oozed out once we cut into the cake.

Raspberry Molten Chocolate Cake

Among the 3 flavours that we sampled, the Raspberry Molten Chocolate Cake was the least preferred as we felt that the tart berry flavor together with the rich chocolate flavor was just a rather odd combination. (We sincerely apologize for the poor photo quality! The Raspberry is not supposed to be as dark as the Chocolate Cake!)

Original Chocolate Cake

The Original Chocolate Cake was simply perfect and cannot be described as our mouths were too full of chocolate to say anything other than MMMMMMMMMMM. It was all about the rich intense chocolate flavor bursting in your mouth, and more chocolate, and even more chocolate than you can ever imagine. Period.

Peanut Butter Molten Chocolate Cake

The next favourite was the Peanut Butter Molten Chocolate Cake. Elisa has never been a big fan of Peanut Butter but this was a wicked combination which will give anyone on this planet a sense of utter satisfaction which is like a party in your mouth! A huge amazing peanut butter and chocolate party complete with disco balls and strobe lights. The thick gooey Peanut Butter was in no way overpowering, but instead it gave the entire cake a whole new dimension. Now you know why Zara is so crazy about peanut butter? A small amount of Peanut butter is enough to introduce flavors impossible to achieve. But when a huge dollop of Peanut Butter doesn’t hurt, you might as well opt for more ^^
In our opinion, Chocolate Lava Cakes have withstood the test of time. They used to be the craze a couple of years ago and we would think that every place which had the Chocolate Lava Cake on their menu was simply the best, regardless of how their other foods taste like. But now, almost all restaurants have them on their menu as it is clearly and definitely a perfect option for pure indulgence and remains one of the most-loved desserts anywhere in the world!
3 Inch Sin is no doubt a hidden find. If you’re a crazy chocolate lover like us, here’s your place. Prices are more than reasonable and service was great. More cake varieties are served over the weekend and we already hear the The Dark Side calling out to us so we’ll definitely be back soon!
