Dempsey has always been one of our favorite places simply because it’s a casual yet chic place where a wide variety of food is available – from one of the most popular Indian restaurants Muthu’s curry to Mexico’s Margarita’s and finally to one of Singapore’s top restaurants Tippling Club, which was named in the annual Miele Awards Top 20 Restaurants in Asia in both 2010 and 2011.
Sure, there are lots of fascinating restaurants in Dempsey. But one place where bermudas, shades and idyllic afternoons go best hand in hand is Roadhouse. Through the use of monotone colors, sophisticated materials and distressed wood, contemporary and rustic merges to create a warm and welcoming environment for diners. Also, there is a strong sense of communal dining – a large communal dining table across the restaurant, and utensils and serviettes placed together in a mini-bucket.
Roadhouse is a typical American diner which serves up indulgent dishes that explode with character and flavor. Their decadent burgers are what they are especially known for because their patties are known to be char-grilled to perfection using the acclaimed Josper Grill. Read our previous review here!
Crusty Blue Swimmer Crab Cakes
Crusty Blue Swimmer Crab Cakes ($16): with sweet corn kernels, savory milk glaze & wild rocket salad. Ever since we went to Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House last year, my mum has been on a mission for the best crab cakes. The best so far has been the ones at The National in New York, followed closely by the ones at Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House. These were hmmmm ok…, but well it wasn’t up to the standard of the best ones we’ve tried. We felt that the breading was slightly too thick, and there should have been more crabmeat to breading. Maybe that’s why it’s called ‘Crusty’. But well, my mum and I like crab cakes which have abundant crabmeat to breading ratio. The savory milk glaze with corns was an interesting take though. It was thick and sweet, and definitely added much taste and flavor, though a little lemon could help tremendously.
Hot Mama
Hot Mama ($23): 170g Josper-grilled wagyu patty, homemade bun, melted cheddar, jalapeno chillis, sour cream, guacamole & tomato salsa. The Josper Grill definitely lived up to its reputation of excellence. The thick wagyu patty was grilled to perfection with a charred and crisp exterior that encompassed a smoky robust flavor, while the fats in the patty had the immediate melt in your mouth texture with the slightest touch of the tongue. The different types of sauces when combined together added interesting flavors!
Beef & Sweet Pepper Quesadilla
Beef & Sweet Pepper Quesadilla ($13): Minced beef, grilled sweet peppers, onions, chopped tomatoes, guacamole & melted monterey jack cheese. Served on a wooden board, this was satisfying, but nothing over the top. The quesadillaw as grilled nicely and there were ample fillings and the gooey cheese was definitely welcoming. There was a trio of sauces at the side – guacamole, sour cream and salsa – where you can have any sauce at any amount, or you can just even mix them all together! 
Grilled Fish Taco
Grilled Fish Taco ($13): with mango salsa, diced avocado, red radish & iceberg lettuce. I felt that this was a little more special because of the mango salsa. It provided sweetness and freshness to balance the entire dish. However, I felt that there was slightly too much lettuce though, and there could have been more avocado. Again, there was a trio of sauces at the side – guacamole, sour cream and salsa
